En este proyecto participan muchos compañeros y excompañeros del IES Averroes: su coordinador es Francisco Carmona, de la Asociación para la Conservación Piscícola y de los Ecosistemas acuáticos del Sur (ACPES) y han colaborado Carmelo López de Arce (autor del diseño de las mascotas y de los paneles informativos), Balbina Armenta y Lourdes Seva (responsables del cuaderno y vídeos prácticos «Hablemos con las manos» en Lengua de Signos Española), así como Rosa López, Carmen Jalón y Lola Martínez (que forman parte del equipo didáctico del proyecto).
El proyecto educativo surge como una propuesta del “Programa de Actividades de Voluntariado para el estudio y conservación del río Ciudadeja” que durante dos años reunió a seis Asociaciones naturalistas y conservacionistas que realizaron un estudio multidisciplinar, de los valores naturales y socioculturales así como de sus problemas, cuya memoria se pude consultar íntegra en este enlace.
